Carlos Santana will revisit his roots with a Dec. 14 concert in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he and his band will be joined by Juanes, Miguel, Gloria Estefan, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and other guest artists in a celebration of his Latin heritage. The concert will preview music from Santana's new album, "Corazón," set for release in early 2014.
The concert and album project "showcases Carlos' own personal influence on Latin music and on today's generation of Latin superstars," according to Sony Music.
Afro-Colombian group Chocquibtown, Argentina's Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Spanish flamenco vocalist Niña Pastori, Samuel Rosa of Brazilian rock-reggae band Skank, Santa's son Salvador Santana, and Argentine singers Soledad and Diego Torres are also scheduled to perform at the concert, with more artists to be announced. The show will take place at Vicente Fernandez Stadium in Guadalajara, not far from the city of Autlán, where Santana was born.
"Corazón" will include collaborations between Santana and those artists, as well as with Romeo Santos, Ziggy Marley and other well-known names. Produced by Lester Mendez, "Corazón" will be released jointly by Sony Latin Iberia and RCA Records.
Santana is currently recording tracks for the album in Las Vegas, where he is also performing at the Mandalay Bay Resort House of Blues through Nov. 17. On Dec. 8, the guitar god and Latin rock pioneer will receive a Kennedy Center Honors Award from President Obama and the First Lady and perform at the Kennedy Center gala, to be broadcast on CBS.
Santana has sold 27.1 million albums in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and has had a total of six top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100. The guitarist was honored with Billboard's Century Award in 1996, and received the Billboard Latin Music Awards' Lifetime Achievement honor in 2009.
